VJ’s Auto to restore operations in River Arts District

ASHEVILLE, N.C. — VJ’s Auto Service, the long-standing auto repair business formerly located at 500 Lyman Street in Asheville’s River Arts District, is preparing to return to its original site along the French Broad River.

According to documents filed with the City of Asheville, VJ’s will construct a 30-by-40 engineered tent on the site of its former building. The tent will function as a temporary storefront for up to one year, as permitted by the city. Once complete, the structure will house the company’s operations and allow them to resume serving customers at their long-time location.

VJ’s Auto Service closed after Hurricane Helene caused catastrophic flooding throughout the River Arts District. Their former building, situated close to the river, sustained significant damage when floodwaters inundated the property. The storm forced the business to vacate the site and left the lot without a usable structure. The return to Lyman Street marks the first time since the hurricane that the business will operate in its original neighborhood.

Once the tent is constructed and the temporary office is in place, VJ’s will be open for business Monday through Thursday, 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
