Gold's Gym in South Asheville to be subdivided

The property at 1815 Hendersonville Road in South Asheville, formerly the site of Gold's Gym, is undergoing significant changes, with both confirmed and upcoming new developments.

The former fitness center closed on January 15th, 2024. Speculation has swirled since the gym's closure, with many community members believing it may become Trader Joe's second Asheville location. In May 2024, the building was leased to Novant Health and is slated to become a cancer care center/medical office building.

However, recent developments with the property indicate the hopes for a Trader Joe's location with more than 0.1 parking spaces per vehicle may not be entirely vanquished. A preliminary survey recently filed with the City of Asheville indicate 0.32 acres on the north end of the parking lot is slated to be subdivided off into a secondary parcel.

As this is a preliminary survey, the boundaries could be subject to change. There is no clear indication as to the intended use of this new parcel. However, this sort of subdivision usually indicates a new commercial building will be constructed on this site. Ahead of the Build will provide an update when available.
