Former Western Carolina Rescue Ministries Thrift Store to be demolished
The North Carolina Department of Transportation’s proposed I-240 expansion through Asheville is poised to take a significant step forward.
According to documents filed with the City of Asheville, the former site of the Western Carolina Rescue Ministries Super Thrift Store is scheduled to be torn down. Located at 624 Patton Avenue and just off Exit 3B, the building’s removal follows the recent demolition of the former FedEx facility at 640 Patton Avenue.
Property records show the thrift store site was acquired by a holding company in 2022 before being sold to the owners of Asheville Pizza & Brewing Company. The NCDOT purchased the property in March 2025 as part of its ongoing right-of-way acquisitions for the interstate project.
