Costco Plans Submitted for Asheville Location
ASHEVILLE, N.C. — It’s official: Costco has its sights set on Asheville.
Plans for the national retailer’s Asheville location were filed with the City of Asheville on Tuesday. The proposed store will be located on 25 acres at 264 and 274 Enka Heritage Parkway in the Enka-Candler area. The project, initially concepted by the company back in March, will bring one of the most requested chains to the region. According to the submitted plans, the development would feature a 160,000-square-foot warehouse complete with a tire service center and 32-pump fueling station.
The Enka-Candler site sits just off Smokey Park Highway (U.S. 19/23), providing highway visibility and access for shoppers traveling from Buncombe and surrounding counties. Its placement also positions the store within driving distance of Waynesville to the west and Hendersonville to the south, signaling a regional draw.
The project will still need to proceed through the city’s review and approval process before construction can begin. A rezoning proposal is expected to go before the city on No official construction timeline has been announced. However, given the historical significance of the site, an extended timeline is likely.
Once completed, the Asheville-area Costco would join more than 600 locations across the U.S. and become the first in Western North Carolina.
